AUTOMOTIVE

An automotive marketer’s dream is an automobile maker’s nightmare; it’s good that those two groups work for the same company. The pressure from part proliferation, product option packages, and market competition is only getting worse. To cope, automotive OEMs are increasingly pushing detail subassemblies to their tier suppliers who are not yet equipped to handle the challenge. We have intense experience on the OEM and supplier level working under these new constraints both to launch new products successfully and improve existing operations.

CUSTOMIZED SOLUTIONS

SEQUENCE CARTS

Major automotive manufacturers have issued top-down directives that new lines or specific facilities will be forklift/fork truck free. Cart systems can replace forklifts as the primary mechanisms for material flow. Our modular cart systems can accommodate a variety of cart types and can be modified for use as push carts, modular tow carts, and sequence carts.

NO TOUCH PART PRESENTATION

Fast cycle times and high assembly content mean there is no time to decant and deal with excess packaging at assembly. Parts should be decanted and repacked off line, either in a warehouse or a connected kitting/sequencing cell, so the assembly operator deals only with the parts.

CUSTOMIZED PACKAGING

Packaging seems too simple a term for what the automotive industry needs to handle parts. Powertrain operations combine the FOD phobia of aerospace with the tight spaces of appliance while vehicle assembly operations deal with phenomenal complexity and constant model launches. Presenting parts in standard boxes is not enough – consider totes with custom inserts, bag frames on carts, minomi carts, and visual kit trays as better ways to package product for assembly.
